Since it has been the main focus of bloggers, newspapers and the television media for the last month or so, you have undoubtedly heard about the swine flu virus that began in Mexico and is spreading around the world. As the news started to spread that the H1N1 flu virus was believed to be responsible for more than one hundred deaths in Mexico, people started to panic about the virus having the same effect around the world. However, while there is no denying that the swine flu virus is still spreading around the globe, the number of deaths has been significantly less than in Mexico. I brought this issue up because it is hard for me to figure out why people continue to be extremely worried about swine flu when it is proving to be much less serious than initially believed. As a result of their continued but misguided worries, people are changing their plans and certain countries are imposing all kinds of regulations.
Although I think it is safe to assume that people are going to continue to worry about swine flu for the foreseeable future, I’m not letting it get in the way of my summer plans. I have a trip to London planned for the end of July, and in spite of all the worries that people around the world are having, I will definitely be going there and having a great time. Given the fact that I have reserved a Victoria Station car hire, hotel room and flight, I can’t even imagine what a pain it would be to change all of those reservations at this point. Luckily, my trip isn’t for at least another month, so I have my fingers crossed that people will stop worrying about the H1N1 virus and start worrying about the next thing they see on their television sets!
